In the summer of 2008, GABRIELA-USA held our first "Back to the Motherland" exposure trip to the Philippines. This trip allows Filipino-American women to see, listen, and experience what Filipino women in the Philippines go through in their everyday lives. We visit different communities, meet with different women, and participate in activities.
This blog will document our trip, our process, our experience.

About GABRIELA-USA
March 2008 saw the formalization of a GABRIELA-USA Chapter, the first international overseas chapter of the Philippine-based women's organization GABRIELA. Babae San Francisco, Filipinas for Rights and Empowerment (FiRE) in NYC, and PINAY sa Seattle make up this international chapter. In March 2009, the Founding Assembly of GABRIELA-USA was held in Los Angeles, with Sisters of GABRIELA Awaken (SiGAw) of LA as an added member.
GABRIELA, the General Assembly Binding Women for Reforms, Integrity, Equality, Leadership and Action, was first established in 1984 by 42 women's organizations in the Philippines uniting against the US-backed Marcos dictatorship. To date, GABRIELA is a national alliance with over 250 women's organizations, institutions, desks, and programs.
